HOW WE GOT HERE

Barbecue stoked the flame. Making memories keeps us burning.

David's has run two kitchens out of one fire for nearly fifty years. The first is a barbecue kitchen that Gainesville has loved since 1978. The second sets wedding tables across North Central Florida. This page is the story of how the first became the second, and why we would never give up either.

The Restaurant

The kitchen that started it

A barbecue kitchen in Gainesville since the late 1970s, beloved the honest way: by feeding people well for a very long time. That room taught us fire, patience, and what a full table sounds like.

The Weddings

The table it became

Nearly every couple tells us the same thing. They almost did not call, because the roots are in barbecue. Then they came to a tasting. Brisket carved at the station. Prime rib. Citrus brandy chicken. Dill honey salmon. Pork belly bites passed at cocktail hour. The barbecue is where we learned to cook. The wedding menu is where we get to show what that turned into.

SINCE 1978

Fire first.

David's started smoking barbecue in Gainesville in 1978 and became a staple the only way a restaurant really can: one plate at a time, for decades. Regulars became families. Families became generations.

A pit kitchen teaches things a culinary school cannot. Patience, because brisket does not negotiate. Consistency, because a town notices an off day. And hospitality, because when people eat with you for forty years, you learn their names, their orders, and their kids' names too.

THE TURN

Then couples started calling.

Somewhere along the line, the people we had been feeding for years started asking us to cater their weddings. We said yes, and we found we loved it: the once-in-a-lifetime stakes, the room full of everyone a family knows, the way a good table can hold a whole day together.

So we built for it. A wedding menu that goes far beyond the smokehouse. A warehouse of décor and a planning workshop to design the tables with you. A bar. A crew that sets the room, serves the night, and cleans it all up. One team, the whole day, under one roof.

How the day works
Bobby, who runs the weddings and nothing else.

MEET BOBBY

Weddings are all he does.

Bobby runs the weddings at David's, and only the weddings. He will meet you for a tasting, sit with you longer than he probably should, walk you through a planning workshop, design your tables, and then be there on the day making sure the two of you never lift a finger. Couples tend to describe him the same way: a one-man band who somehow does it all. Alicia and a team of more than twenty back him up, so nothing rides on one person alone.

The roots are barbecue. The work is your wedding. We take both seriously.
